Once upon a time there was a Little Red Hen who lived in a farmyard. In this same farmyard lived a cat, a duck and a rabbit.
One day, while she was out walking, the Little Red Hen found a grain of wheat.
"Cluck! Cluck! Cluck!" called the Little Red Hen. "Who will plant this grain of wheat?"
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the rabbit.
"Very well then, I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
The sun shone, and the rain fell. The wheat seed grew into a tall stalk of grain. After some time, the wheat was ready to harvest. Then the Little Red Hen called the cat, the duck and the rabbit and said, "Who will cut this wheat?"
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the rabbit.
"Very well then, I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
After the wheat was cut, the Little Red Hen said, "Who will thresh the wheat?"
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the rabbit.
"Very well then, I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
When the wheat was threshed, the Little Red Hen said, "Who will take the wheat to the mill to have it to ground into flour?"
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the rabbit.
"Very well then, I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
So the Little Red Hen carried the wheat to the mill where it was ground into flour. Upon her return, she said, "Who will make this flour into bread?"
"Not I," said the cat.
"Not I," said the duck.
"Not I," said the rabbit.
"Very well then, I will," said the Little Red Hen. And she did.
When the flour was baked into a fine large loaf of bread, the Little Red Hen said, "Who will eat this bread?"
"I will!," said the cat.
"I will!," said the duck.
"I will!," said the rabbit.
"Oh, no, you won't," said the Little Red Hen. "I will."
And she did, sharing it with her own little chicks! :P
